Testing Options

Polysomnogram (PSG)

The in-lab test called a PSG or polysomnogram is pricey but helps diagnose other sleep disorders and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This test requires a patient to sleep in a lab hospital setting hooked up to hundreds of wires while technicians watch them sleep. Many patients do not feel they sleep well during this test due to all the wires and feel uncomfortable sleeping while being monitored.

The Home Sleep Test (HST)

You can take the Home Sleep Test (HST) in the comfort of your home. A board-certified sleep physician interprets the test results—many doctors and insurance companies like patients to start with the HST option first. HST is an effective and affordable diagnostic tool for diagnosing Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Summary

A polysomnogram (PSG) is a very accurate test of an inaccurate night's sleep. A home sleep test (HST) is a less accurate test of a very precise night's sleep.
